About the E-Book version of...

Things to know

It's currently available only for use on Microsoft Windows
computer systems. (Sorry, other systems are not supported at
this time.)

It only works with Windows 7 and earlier...it cannot
be used on Windows 8 at this time.

Most parts of the e-book cannot be printed nor
copied to the Windows clipboard. Exceptions include the Table of
Contents, Index, Appendices, etc., and some of the
early chapters.

Unlike the print version, screen shots in the e-book are in
color!

A search feature lets you search for keywords in the e-book;
however, search results only link to the chapter
where the searched-for keywords
appear, not directly to specific pages. So the search
feature isn't as helpful as it ought to be. (Sorry; this is
due to how the original publication's files had to be
converted to the e-book.)

Our digital rights management system for the e-book
allows two (2) activations. This means you could
install and activate it on either one or two computers. However,
many
users will want to keep
their second activation in reserve in case a
hard drive crash or computer theft would causes the loss of
one activation.

You may also deactivate
activations of your e-book. If you are about to
change hard drives or get a new computer, you can preserve
both of your available activations by deactivating the e-book
on the old hard drive or old computer, then later reactivate it on the new hard drive or new computer.
How do I get it installed and registered?

Download the e-book's installer by clicking the Download
Now button at the end of these instructions.

Run the installer to install the e-book on your computer.
Until
you've activated the e-book it will run in trial mode,
giving you access only to a limited portion
of it.

Purchase an Activation Key for the e-book from our online
ordering page, by clicking on the Buy Now button at the end
of these instructions.
We will email your Activation Key, usually within 24 hours of
purchase (typically within just a few hours).

Start (run) the e-book on your computer.
A startup screen will ask whether you want to unlock the
e-book or use it in trial mode.

Choose the "I have an activation key and want to unlock the e-book"
option, them click the Continue button.
An Enter Activation Key screen will be displayed.

Enter the Activation Key you received by email
following your purchase, then click the Activate button.
An Internet connection must be available at this point,
so that the e-book can register your activation with its digital rights management server. No
personal information is ever sent.
The e-book will close, to complete the registration process.
When you restart it, you should be able to view all parts of
the e-book, verifying that activation succeeded.

How to I activate the e-book on a second computer?
Use the same procedure as described above, except that this
time you don't have to purchase an Activation Key, since a
single Activation Key grants you two activations
(i.e., on two different computers).
Think of your e-book Activation Key as being similar to a
software license key. In this case, the key allows two "installations" (activations) of the
"software" (e-book).

If I run the e-book in trial mode (that is, before
activating it), what parts of it will I be allowed to see?
You will be able to view the Table of Contents, Index,
Appendices, and a few of the early chapters. Other parts will be locked and
unavailable for viewing.

It has its own
self-contained viewer, shown at right, so no additional software
is required.
