Catch Weights™ is a QuickBooks add-on program which accepts the entry of individual catch weights, then adds them in the Description column of the current invoice line and inserts the total weight in the Quantity column.

Catch Weights gives you: 

 

SeaFresh Wholesalers is an imaginary seafood wholesaler. For seafood items they sell, they want their invoice lines to include a list of catch weights, the total weight, and a count of the number of items delivered--the number of boxes or units of each seafood item.

To follow along with this example, both QuickBooks and the Catch Weights program should be running.

Here's a view of the column headings SeaFresh uses on their invoices. Note that the Quantity column has been renamed Qty/Weight in the QuickBooks Invoice template. Also, the Box Count column is actually the Other 1 invoice column, renamed Box Count.

To get started with Catch Weights, the only requirement is to tell it about the order of columns on the QuickBooks form. To do this, click on the QuickBooks Form Setup button on Catch Weights' Setup tab:

This opens the Catch Weights Setup window, where you can select column numbers for the form columns Catch Weights works with, to match their order on the QuickBooks invoice. (Notice that the column numbers selected in this example match column heading order shown above for the SeaFresh invoice.)

After completing this one setup window, Catch Weights is ready to use!

To get started, go to QuickBooks, open the Invoice form, begin filling in the invoice, and select the first Item to include on the invoice. In this example, it's king crab:

Move the cursor to the Quantity column, as indicated by the red arrow above. This step is important! Catch Weights must be invoked from the Quantity column of the QuickBooks form, or it won't work properly.

Invoke Catch Weights by pressing the F11 key on your keyboard. (This is the standard "hotkey" for invoking Catch Weights, unless you change it on the Catch Weights Options tab.) The Catch Weights window will pop up over QuickBooks, and you can enter individual weights as shown here:

When you are finished entering the weights, click OK or press the hotkey (F11) again to have the results written back into the QuickBooks form. Here's the same Invoice form, after Catch Weights has finished entering the weights.

You can use Catch Weights in this same way on any line of the QuickBooks form.
 

The best way to see what Catch Weights can do for you is to download the full-working trial version. It will work for up to 30 days before it requires entry of a software license Registration Code to continue using the program. Then, if you decide to continue using Catch Weights you can purchase a Catch Weights software license.

After purchasing a Catch Weights software license, a Registration Code will be emailed to for entry into the Catch Weights program. This "unlocks" the program and lets you continue using it as the fully licensed version--there's no additional software to download or install.

Simple Licensing

Catch Weights is used in fast-paced businesses, where no one needs to be bothered with thinking much about how many users allowed, who is logged in, or other aspects of software license compliance. So we've made the licensing for Catch Weights very simple and flexible.

Instead of a single-user license, each Catch Weights license allows the program to be installed on up to three computers and used by up to three users at a time at a single business location ("business location" is defined as a postal address--a physical location).

In other words, you only need to buy additional Catch Weights licenses if you will have more than three simultaneous Catch Weights users or you need to use Catch Weights at more than one business location.
